just read this book, homo faber, by max frisch in german. it's about a guy who falls in love with a younger woman...who turns out to be the-daughter-he-never-knew-he-had. im writing an essay right now about how forbidden loves and taboos -- homosexuality & incest -- actually allow some (aschenbach in death in venice and faber in this book) people to find themselves and happiness, even though they are committing a "forbidden" act. very interesting stuff. the cover is gold:
it's also a film with julie delpy and sam shephard:
i have yet to watch this version, but i could see this being a really really really incredible film...any producers out there looking for the next big hit? there's a beautiful scene where he rewatches all of the films he made of the girl....i almost cried!
