sale sale sale!

jen at serial cultura is having a scarf sale again, 50% off!!! she just shot the spring 2010 lookbook (i wasn't styling this time! noooo!!!!) and once again she puts us all to shame with her patterns and color schemes. she also used jewelry from ny-based designer, brian crumley, whose silk-wrapped chains match her aesthetic perfectly.

the newest york

america the beautiful!

nico and i crashed at dirty deb's killer pad in brooklyn for a week and a half when we weren't beachside in martha's vineyard. she outfitted me with a new haircut and dyed me back to black, which is a miracle because i was looking a little gypsy-like with my faded out dpt frosted tips. thanks D!!! what's cool about debra is that she is (self-proclaimed) "always down" for anything...ANYTHING, and we had a great time in her presence.

walked chinatown and the lower east side and the villages (east and west) and lots of brooklyn, which we concluded is pretty, preeettyyy prettyyy good. new york is always so inspiring, the energy is unbeatable and the pizza--the PIZZA! no, just the food in general is stupefying!!! i'm still full from the past 3 weeks. vanessa's dumpings, papaya dog, two boots pizza, franny's pizza, super taste noodles YUMMMMMM!!!

friends always make things better: caught the midnight showing of bruno with phil & erin at the brooklyn academy of music; quick pierogis and chocolate in brooklyn with bff and budding foodie, olivia; magnolia cupcakes with sf-to-new-york-transplant-stylist ewa; DEEP FRIED OREOS with wild wild weston, photographer extraordinaire; and gruyere grilled cheeses at wilfie and nell with soon-to-be doctor (not the medical kind) natalie.

SERIOUSLY THE MOST EPIC CONVERSATION OF ALL TIME with weston on a rooftop about ruling the world and looting...what would YOU do!!??!????

saw lots of great art, shitty art, life as art...etc etc at museums and galleries and just on the STREET MAN!!!!

***DISCLAIMER due to camera complications so much of this went undocumented! thanks to all of our friends who made this trip so happenin' and sorry we can't reward you with some photos for your facebook page. next time, come see us in sf!

RIP Michael Jackson, bringing people together since...being the king. the king of pop! the king of the WORLD!!! i must admit, i shed a tear in line coming in through customs with the tribute playing on the television...something about coming back to america without michael made it seem like a changed land....

cy kwan do

kevin and i went to the brand new brandhorst museum in munich conveniently located near the rest of the pinakotheks in a sort of museum "complex" in schwabing, my old stomping ground.

the building itself is quite nice, but what was really the best, among the mainly post-modern and contemporary collection, were these incredible, huge, strikingly colorful paintings by cy twombly. i have never really loved his textual/graffiti-style abstractions, but the colors in these more recent paintings of roses (2008) were BRILLIANT in many senses of the word and the sheer size of them was enough to hypnotize. check it out:

...at least we can have a good time

it's been thunderstorming in munich for the past week! three storms today alone! what is going on? is this summer? spent a lot of time inside, sleeping, relaxing, preparing for my trip back to new york, lazy museum visits and eating a lot of chocolate and ice cream with the help of kevin and tasja....

but we didn't let the rain get us too down. spent a lot of time "auf's land" in the bavarian countryside. andi took us sailing and swimming at the ammersee...we powered through pre-alp downpours and treaded the path of the blue rider german expressionists (my favorite!) in kochel, walchensee, murnau...late-night weekend camping festival/raveparty on a farm near weilheim (notwist 's hometown!) thrown by the rote sonne, the gruene sonne!

tonight we met all the germans--michi & mona, frederik & christopher, tasja & kevin + me for ethiopian feast and goodbye ice cream (triple scoops all around!) ill miss you guys!!!

wow, it's been a good week and an even better two-month trip. is it really over?

i leave this morning back to new york to start a new adventure with a new/old friend, nico. ich freue mich!!!

cheers to all of the new friends i have made, the old friends i've seen, the meals i've shared, the loneliness, exhilaration, frustration, love, awe, and every other feeling in between that i have experienced in the past brain-rattling eight weeks of my life. thanks to everyone who made it happen, from couchsurfers to merchants to busdrivers----every minisecond is a memory!

martí in girona told me this upon my departure, which is maybe my new mantra: "i'm sorry that we couldn't help you decide what to do in your life, but at least we can have a good time!"

thanks, martí. i had a great time! now for the future......................
