pal girls
before i left portland i organized and styled a photoshoot with a group of girls who are part of a police activities league fashion design camp. the photos were finally posted here. the girls were incredible, kept posing "just like tyra banks" and had an awesome time being models for a day. they really got a taste of the fashion photo world. this is just one photo from hundreds that we had to whittle down to about 25....enjoy!

athens georgia
dorothy recruited me to drive down to georgia with her to go apartment hunting. she got a job in a lab at uga and didnt want to blindly choose a place...so of course i came along for the ride. chicago, indianapolis, louisville, nashville, chatanooga, atlanta, and 14 hours later we're in athens, georgia. we stayed with a sweet gal named gayle through couchsurfing...great host and tourguide, showed us the ins and outs, secret spots and good food. overall a great trip, lots of sweating, not too much eating (too hot!), learning about new kinds of magnolias, cockroaches, "townies", and $3.85-$4.35/gallon gas. a few photos are coming, but here's a taste of the local flora...the magnolia grandiflora juxtaposed with the "normal" magnolia

arriba!
i spent the last 2 weeks in mexico with nico. most of our time was spent in akumal, a small town south of cancun and playa del carmen. it was founded in 1958 as a diving community and still has some of the best diving in the riviera maya. it was the best vacation ever--snorkeling, collecting shells and coral to make necklaces, building drip castles in the sand, and driving through the jungle in a rickety rental car. monteczuma did not seek revenge upon us and we met some wonderful people in merida, capital of the yucatan. we drank coconut water out of coconuts, saw a cat with one eye, drank pineapple juice out of plastic baggies, and visited the oldest cathedral in the western hemisphere! we also visited a few mayan ruins, swam in a brackish lagoon with parrotfish, and saw a shark and sea turtle! how can it get any better than that? now i am back in chicago visiting my family, but i wish so much to go back south of the border...the colors there are blinding...
