lunch special

working downtown is kind of a bummer on the lunch front. your choices are limited to either shitty, greasy financial district smash-and-grab places or super fancy shopgirl cafes with pricey, soggy salads. but then there's crepe o'chocolat! the shining beacon in a land of unhealthy union square lunches! my all-time favorite lunch destination (if i don't pack something healthy in the morning) always has a fresh, hand-made with love, organic, healthy meal ready for me for around $5.

yesterday i had a gluten-free vegetarian quiche that melted in my mouth; last week i had a hearty butternut squash and faro soup; the goat cheese and apple jam sandwich on an extra skinny, long baguette is toasted to deliciousness! then there's homemade granola, yogurt and fruit; a whole roasted squash stuffed with grains; homemade omelettes with various seasonal veggies......

and don't get me started on the treats.......i don't eat a lot of sugar, so these homemade delights are perfect--chocolate chip cookies, vegan oatmeal cakes, french toasts, quinoa/flax/ cookies, house chocolates w/lavender, sundried tomatoes, and sea salt! dark chocolate covered grapefruit peels! gluten-free chocolate souffles! and dont forget the sugar and lemon crepes! sylvie, the owner, is friendly and welcoming and a magician in the kitchen. my lunch oasis! thank you crepe o'chocolat!

i wish i wish i wish

nico just reminded me about rivane neuenschwander's "a day like any other" show that just opened at the new museum. we saw her work at the wizard of oz show at the wattis back in october 08 and it was one of the best pieces in the show! a wall of ribbons with other peoples' wishes printed on them that you take and tie on as a bracelet...i had my wish bracelet on for quite a while! new york-ers/bound please check this out for me! it should be a visually and conceptually enthralling show!

where for art thou, leo?

there's nothing like reliving your pre-teen fantasies, especially those involving leonardo dicaprio. lisa and teresa and i watched romeo + juliet the other night and could barely mop up the drool on the floor. pre-titanic leo and post-so-called-life claire danes are so youthful and dreamy, individually and even more so as a pair! the film is so stylized- the colors! the costumes! the dialogue!- yet it works so well. such a classic story that somehow, despite the various vague references to pop and american culture, remains timeless and placeless- just like their love!!! i would also love to have leo's hair! ultra side part and shaggy bangs that you just want to sweep out of your face...or have him sweep them out of my face.......

my soul mate

how have i never realized how fucking rad zandra rhodes is???? i spent a good couple of hours at the library looking at some very inspirational "library use only" books, including one called the art of zandra rhodes. here are some of my favorite pages...i asked my mom for the book for my birthday so maybe i'll get to post more photos soon. :)

the best part about her work is her appreciation of other cultures (mexico, the american desert, native americans, japan, spain other native cultures....) and her thoughtful interpretation of motifs and colors and styles from each. it reminded of my sketchbook from morocco! really makes me want to live somewhere hot so i can just wear giant painted kaftans all the time.

GOD the colors and textiles are PERFECT!!!! plus now she's like 60-something and has HOT pink hair. i want to be her.

good morning, i'm hungry

fashion blogs have kind of lost my attention lately...how many pictures of the same people can you really look at every day? now i find myself gaining much more inspiration from my favorite daily indulgence- FOOD! my favorite food blog lately is simply breakfast, jennifer causey's daily catalog of her morning meal. i just got into steel cut oats (thanks trina!), always enjoy making my own granola, and have recently discovered the benefits of waking up early (what? it's hard!). so breakfast blog it is! on a rainy day off like today, sleeping in and a big warm breakfast are definitely a requirement...

is that chambray?

really into chambray lately.

we had a great rag & bone chambray button-down at metier that had pinstripe lining. came in a nice classic blue and cool salt&pepper grey that sold out real quick...which inspired me to get this old calvin klein shirtdress at goodwill w/debi. it's similar to this one by rag & bone, via heist

and "you loved it when it was your boyfriend's..." at jcrew

could probably use these, although i have some trashed slipon flats that are the same...ha. via elletrain

i wore this 80s grey chambray dress to work and zana's trunk show the other night (read: see below. god, don't i look so uncomfortable and awkward?!?). it has snap-off sleeves that are really rad, too...

but not THIS into it...via quiltkrazy (where else??)
